ACCELERATED READER PROGRAM

All students in grades 1-8 at Bethany are required to participate in the Accelerated Reader Program.  The AR program counts as "one quarter" of their Reading grade and will be based on his/her average comprehension score and earning his/her required points for the quarter (see below).

Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computerized reading incentive and management program.  Using a combined system of vocabulary level, length of book, and level of difficulty, each book is assigned a reading level and point value.

Students read a selected book chosen from our school library, the public library, as well as home collections and book clubs. To help find books, visit www. arbookfind.com.

When students are finished reading their chosen book, they take a comprehension test on that book.  Depending on their success level on the test, they are given a point value score (100% on the test equals the point value of the book.  Less than 100% receives a reduced point value score.)

Students who earn above and beyond the required points for each quarter may earn an "AR Hall of Fame" award at the end of the school year.
