BEING CONFIRMED IN THE LUTHERAN FAITH
Confirmation is a pastoral and educational ministry of the Lutheran Church. Its purpose is to strengthen the faith of the baptized child through the study of God’s Word toward Christ-like maturity in faith and life, including worthy reception of the Sacrament of the Altar. The Confirmation process concludes with the Rite of Confirmation in which the candidate publicly confesses his/her faith in Christ and receives the Church’s prayers for the continuing work of the Holy Spirit in the confirmand’s life.
Bethany offers Basic Bible Study classes 4 times a year. This is required for confirmation. See Adult Bible Study page for times.
Bethany’s Confirmation program is a two-year (2) process. Students are eligible to enroll beginning in the seventh grade. Students who successfully complete the requirements receive the Rite of Confirmation at the end of the second year. Students have two opportunities to receive instruction: Thursday evenings 5:45-6:45pm or Sunday Mornings at 9:45-10:45am. This instruction, provided by Pastors and Teachers, trains the child in the fundamental beliefs of the Christian faith as contained in the Scriptures utilizing the teaching instrument of Martin Luther’s Small Catechism.
